The Club 940 Volleyball season is almost here, but that doesn’t mean the young ladies who represent us so well both on and off the court have not been hard at work. Many of our athletes have been competing for their high school teams since August, and six of them have a chance to nab a gold medal this coming weekend at the UIL State Tournament in Garland.
Boyd (43-5), which has five Club 940 players on its roster, will face Vanderbilt Industrial (39-3) at 11 a.m. Thursday in one of two Class 3A semifinal matches. Callisburg (45-4), which has one Club 940 player, faces Troy (36-10) at 1 p.m.
Leading the charge for Boyd is our very own Jordyn Todd (18U), Ashley Fouts (17U), Taylor Figueroa (17U), Delaney Pellegrini (17U), and Tori Pellegrini (17U). Boyd advanced to the state tournament with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 over Bushland, which won the Class 4A state title in 2016. Callisburg, which has standout Emma Sledge on its roster, extended its season with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-15 win over Gunter.
“As we expressed in our parent meeting, we are developing a program to build strong athletes with excellent work ethic and strong characters,” Club 940 owner Jennifer Homeyer said. “We are so excited for these girls and the schools they play for. They exude what we want to build in the years to come.”
While we will all be watching with bated breath to see if these girls and their teams can cap their seasons with a volleyball state title, we’d be remiss if we didn’t extend a special congratulations to three more of our athletes who narrowly missed out on a trip to state. Kaela Wilkerson (17U), Bella Muir (17U), and Kenzie Turkoly (18U) of Sanger High School lost to Melissa on Saturday in the Class 4A Region II final.
It was the deepest playoff run for Sanger in school history, and our girls had a lot to do it.
